media interests
A vast majority of other students in the class use Spotify as their primary medium for music. Netflix was common on nearly every person's website as well, of course. While social media was a frequent high level media source, the low levels in within it did vary a bit. Some people were present on all platforms (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, etc), while others kept it to just one. At least half of the students expressed that video games were another high level form of media that they used most, with Super Smash Bros being the most popular. Podcasts also showed to be fairly common as well.
reasons for taking class
Many students pointed out the necessary fact that they're in this course because it's a valid technical elective course. While this class satisfies an academic checkbox, it certainly isn't the only one that could do so. On top of being a semi-required course, a lot of students mentioned that they preferred it to the other options that would have filled the same requirements. This elective has a greater focus on creativity and aesthetics when compared with its technical alternatives. Several students marked the importance of analyzing the rapid change in media and understanding how storytelling has been affected.
